Wheel of Disappointment

Wondering if any of you sports mom’s can relate, I feel like we are always letting someone down. My boys each play three sports, since they are young, we don’t feel like they should have to choose or specialize yet. Sports don’t stay in their lane anymore. “Travel” baseball teams used to be a summer sport, now its more like Spring and they want you to play Fall Ball. Fall Ball takes place when football and or soccer happens.  Then if you play a sport like hockey which seems to be an extended season anyway…. It’s madness that my 10 year old could have hockey, football and baseball practices all in one day if we let him. Oh and lets not forget the siblings and their events…

I know there isn’t anything I am going to be able to do to change this in my silly vent session but wanted to make sure I am not alone here. Coaches, the good ones anyway, will reiterate the off season practices are optional but that disappointing feeling is always there. I feel like we are always spinning “The Wheel of Disappointment.”

Oh and lets not forget the non-sports related commitments, your nieces birthday or a visit with sweet Gram Gram! If they aren’t a sports family there’s always going to be disappointment. In the end, when you have competitive children and they have that passion, all we can do is help them make the best decision at that point in time.
